There's a shift happening - where artists only had the option sell art their art through traditional galleries or group shows, artists are increasingly turning to the web to sell art online, and we have seen this shift happening first hand.
Before starting Artweb.net we ran the Art Source, an online gallery based in London. We launched in 2006 and over the years we sold hundreds of original pieces of art, all online and without anyone setting foot in a physical gallery. So we know people buy art online, and in increasing numbers.
Many of our artists have had the same experience selling their art on the web. In a recent member survey we asked, "what is your overall experience or expectation of selling art online?". Over two thirds reported previously selling their art online, but the remaining third had not.
